    After the boots are complete, could you add needle felted designs? I wanted to recreate a pair of boots my mom had when she was younger, but got lost over the years

    • @ChristiDea
      @ChristiDea 7 месяцев назад

      It's near impossible to have needle felted designs adhere to fully felted wool. If you want to add needle felted designs you need to partially felt the wool, needle felt in the design and then finish the felting with the standard wet felting techniques. On another note. I did see a fantastic Russian technique used to make intricate designs on felted boots. The artist layed a patterned scarf on top of the prefelt and used it as a guide to needle felt the exact design of the scarf onto the boots. This is how some of those great Eastern European Felt boots are made.

      Thanks for letting me know! I'll do a little more research to see if that's something I can accomplish, but I may just have to stick with plain felted boots

    Thanks for showing us the problems that can happen along the way with plying! You never see that in videos, so you tend to think that it should all go smoothly and be easy from the start! One question that I have though-I have smaller bobbins so they fill up quickly. How do I make a continuous skein of say 200 yards? I just don’t get that part😬

    • @ChristiDea
      @ChristiDea 8 месяцев назад

      to do a really large skein you need to be able to start on a jumbo bobbin. I suppose if push came to shove you could probably join the yarn using a spindle, but I've never tried it myself just because I have the jumbo bobbins

    • @ChristiDea
      @ChristiDea 9 месяцев назад

      Oh goodness, I can't recall. I bought it a few years ago, but I believe it was under $100 for sure. I get a military discount from the leather store, so that helps. There are different grades of shoe leather. The longer it is cured the harder it is and more expensive it is. You could make so much stuff from all that lealther. It's basically one entire hide

      Do you think I should rebrand the channel? When I got serious about this channel I was just trying to share as much about fiber arts as possible, but I'm a bit of a weirdo and get intensely interested in certain subjects and go all in until I feel like I've learned enough. I have wondered about adding some of the other stuff I've been up to, because I do love sharing, but none of it relates to fiber....it's all self sufficiency stuff though. Lately I'm progagating plants from cuttings and grafting fruit trees, there are already tons of videos on ye old RUclips for that though, not sure I could add to the body of knowledge....unless my experiement of grafting figs to mulberries works! If THAT works I should definately document it! (they are in the same family....so theoretically it's possible"

    I am so glad that you showed these problems as they are what I have had!! I am new to spinning. My Ashford Traditional wheel only cost me £25 but the treadle kept coming off so I have made a 'fix'. It can spin without problems but then if I change the bobbin it will not spin properly. Often refitting the bobbin is the solution. Watching this I realised that I need to oil it more often but probably don't need to get another wheel.
